Pristina's Assembly Voted in Kurti's New Government After a Three-Month Stall

Kosovo's parliament approved Albin Kurti's government after nearly three months of institutional stalemate.

Kosovo's Assembly voted 62 in favour and 8 against, with no abstentions, to elect Albin Kurti prime minister for a fourth time. It is his fourth government since his Vetevendosje movement won three parliamentary elections since February 2025, including snap votes in December 2025 and June 2026.

The government programme presented to MPs is almost identical to that of the previous cabinet from February this year. The Assembly also approved the full new cabinet: Glauk Konjufca as first deputy PM and minister of foreign affairs and diaspora, Donika Gervalla as second deputy PM and justice minister, and Fikrim Damka as third deputy PM for community affairs. Hekuran Murati takes finance, Andin Hoti labour, and Ejup Maqedonci defence.

MPs from the Democratic League, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo were absent from the session. The latter two parties said they would file to the Constitutional Court over how the assembly's deputy speakers were elected.

The vote ends a three-month institutional stall after the election, but not the deeper instability: despite three election wins, Kurti's party still lacks the votes to elect a head of state. If the assembly fails to elect a president, Kosovo faces fresh early elections — its fourth in two years.
